Your furnace pulls air from the room, heats the air, and a blower moves warm air through the ducts in the house. The filter is designed to trap airborne particles, such as pet dander, dust mites, pollen, mold spores, and bacteria from the air moving through the system. Once the filter gets full of these airborne particles, you need to replace it, allowing your furnace (and you) to breathe freely again.
If your filter becomes full of airborne particles, there is a greater risk that the particles in the air can enter the blower on your furnace, causing it to also become clogged and require maintenance ore replacement. It is much easier and far less expensive to replace a furnace filter than to replace prematurely worn parts in the blower assembly.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the air we breathe indoors is five times more polluted than the air outdoors. That's a staggering fact that only gets worse when your furnace filter becomes clogged with dirt, dust, pet dander, and other particles that flow through the indoor air.
